Who am I?

Marc-David started his career, after completing his Bachelor in Hotel Administration and his Master degree in Public Administration, at Royal Dutch/Shell Group where he held HR Advisory roles during intense restructuring in the head offices in The Hague and in London.


He then moved to “De Nationale Investeringsbank NV”, nowadays called NIB Capital, as HR advisor to the bank’s stockbrokers’ activities and to focus on NIBC’s HR policy development.


In 1999 he joined ABN AMRO Bank where he held several global HR Management roles at senior level. During his career at ABN AMRO, he played an integral role in major reorganizations and change programs at a global scale.


Since 2004, when he moved to ING Bank, he has continuously expanded his HR responsibilities: initially starting as Global HR Manager for Financial Markets, over the years he broadened his HR responsibilities up to all front office areas of the Wholesale Banking activities which reached approximately 10,000 staff around the world. In 2010 he was appointed Global Head HR for Wholesale Banking, heading the HR function of 220 people around the globe, supporting 15,000 staff in 45 countries.


From January 2011 to November 2013 as Global Head Compensation & Benefits for all of ING’s Banking activities he initiated the development and global implementation of the Bank Remuneration Framework. This Remuneration Framework, which made ING Bank fully compliant with all regulations has been recognized by the authorities as leading in the field.


In November 2013, he became Global Head HR for ING Wholesale Banking, heading a team of 130 HR professionals around the world. As such he was a member of both the global Wholesale Banking Executive Team as well as the global HR Management Team of ING Bank. He reported to the CEO of ING Wholesale Banking, member of the Board of ING Bank.

In May 2016, Marc-David moved from HR into the front office of the bank, becoming Head of Financial Markets the Netherlands. Financial Markets in the Netherlands, which is the largest dealing room team of FM globally with 220 people, is undergoing strong change driven by cost, capital and revenue, while continuously focusing on our risk culture and behavior, compliance, our Orange Code and our people engagement.


Throughout his career, he managed large groups of people, including teams in different locations. He is a recognized leader who has transformed HR functions and people into advanced business partners. His clockwork thinking is one of his strong assets. As business leader he led intensive change programs, preparing for the future.


For his roles at Shell, ABN Amro and ING, he has frequently traveled through Europe, the US, the UK and all of Asia Pacific. On a regular basis he is a guest speaker at international seminars, mostly focusing on change management, people strategies and global reward.


Furthermore, Marc-David is a recognized international leadership coach, with a strong track record at both Executive and Senior Management level in diverse organizations. As such, he is close to gaining his second Master degree, this time in Executive Coaching at Ashridge/Hult International Business School. (The only program worldwide that leads to a Master Degree in Executive Coaching, accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. The executive coaching accreditation process received the EMCC European Quality Award in 2017).
